WideBlog for secret blogging 3

Posted by Pelle Tue, 07 Feb 2006 10:13:09 GMT

WideBlog is an application that lets you write and share SECRET blogs. Secret you say?

But blogs are all about openness, the cluetrain and everything right?

I am very much in agreement with this, but Blogs has also taught us a cool easy to use way of communicating. And you know what? There are still things that should remain secret. Imagine …

  • An informal project blog in BIG Co Inc.
  • A startup status blog where you keep your investors, board, partners and employees up to speed on financials and other things that you want private.
  • A baby blog where you keep your family posted on juniors first steps.

So WideBlog attempts to provide an easy to use hosted blogging application, where all your data is fully encrypted. YOU decide who can read and who can post blog entries. It is a fully featured blog with RSS feeds and comments.

It is easy to use and get started. You can get posting in less than a minute. Create your own blog for FREE here .

I have also set up a WideBlog Playground where you can play around and post messages. But take a minute to try creating your own blog as well.

Great to see you continuing deploying interesting applications! However—I’m going to keep pestering you with suggestions for improvements…

    Now, regarding Wideblog:
    • On the playground, I could edit your entry, eventhough we’re not identified as the same person (since we’re using different URLs). Is this by design? Feels like a bug to me.
    • I didn’t realize I could add comments on an entry until I happened to click on an entry headline. There should be a link to “add comment” on the blog view, as well as a text saying how many comments each entry has.
    • You really need to add an RSS feed. I’m not sure your application would even qualify as a blog without one (IMHO)...
    • It would be nice if you could make the blog public if you wanted to
    • tags! categories! WYSIWYG editor! Not strictly necessary, but it sure would be nice.

Hi Robert, As always thanks for your suggestions.

I designed it in such a away that anyone who is a designated writer can edit each others entries. The reason being that I figured that these will normally be used by fairly trusting groups of people. At least that is my theory. Readers can of course not change things.

I think it’s important to not introduce too much complexity, but if more people think this should be made an option I will do so.

I am definitely missing a commenting interface on the front page. Good point. I will do this asap.

There is actually a RSS feed. You should see the RSS icon in both Firefox and Safari. There is also a small rss icon to the top right. I guess I need to emphasize this a bit more.

I may create a public blogging option at some point. If there is demand for it I will look into it.

Tags are a good idea and will be coming soon either built in or as a companion project.

I will definitely create a wysiwyg editor. Probably next week as I’m heading off for a few days vacation.

Again as always thanks for your suggestions.

As it happens my ISP did a router upgrade today which they did notify me about. This means that both WideBlog and WideWord were down for a little while.
