Moving to San Francisco 10

Posted by Pelle Fri, 16 Feb 2007 10:04:02 GMT

In case you haven’t heard it yet, we’re heading out from Denmark to San Francisco next week. I just counted it will be the 12th time I’ve moved from one country to another.

I guess since I’m American born, it’s strictly speaking not immigration. But it will be my first time living on the west coast. I spent the dot com boom years in the Boston area, so from what I hear the Bay Area is going to be a big change for me in some way.

For my amazing wife Leticia it will probably be a slightly bigger culture shock as this is only her second immigration jump (as yet). She did manage fine though here in this very strange country of Denmark, so I’m sure she’ll do fine.

My main reason for picking SF is the entrepreneurial culture in the bay area. I find you get a certain buzz and inspiration about being around other entrepreneurs and I’m afraid to say that Denmark is very short on that – they do exist but they are few and far between.

Anyway, while Lau and I will continue our development of (?.com) unphased by 9 hour time differences, I am also hoping to do some rails consulting in San Francisco. If you need any Rails (or Java) help for shorter or longer gigs please feel free to email me at pelle@stakeventures.com.

You can read more about me in my bio or linkedin page. If you are really bored there is probably way to much about me on my autobiography. On request I can also drop you a Resume.

Anyway it will be good fun.

Welcome to SF. We’ve got a pretty good Ruby/Rails community here. Check out sfruby.org for a good starting place, and come to a meetup sometime.

    Pelle,

Awesome to hear you will be in the states… Any chance you will be at RailsConf this year?

Maybe we will have a rendezvous for large steaks again.

Hey Jake, Good to hear from you. I think some steaks might have to be on the RailsConf schedule this year as I will be there. I have been dreaming about that steak of yours ever since.

Josh, Great to hear from you. I will definitely come to the rails meetups, I’ve had great fun at the ones here in Copenhagen. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make the Thursday one as I’ll be pretty much right off the plane.

Sweet man, congrats! You’re a serious globetrotter! :-)

You’ve love SF I think, I worked there for half a year before moving here to Holland 2 years ago. A very dynamic and energetic place. If I was to go back that would be one of my top pics (right below San Diego ;-) )

Good luck man, keep us posted.

I’m also curious, where abouts in San Fran are you going to setup shop at? When I lived there it was super expensive downtown. But there is always the outskirts and places like San Mateo, Oakland, The Mission and Mountain View.

If I’m ever out there again I’ll have to drop you an email.

Also, have you heard anything about a Reboot 9 in Denmark? I haven’t heard anything but would love to go again. I miss Denmark.

Good luck to you and Letitia on your move. I’ll miss you at our Copenhagen Ruby Brigade meetings (though I haven’t been there lately).

Also, it will be interesting to follow the work of you and Lau and how the time difference works out.

Hey Marston, It’s still pretty expensive. We’re in SOMA right now until we find something more permanent.

I haven’t heard anything about Reboot, but I would imagine that it will be held again this year.

Jesper, Thanks for your comments. I’ll miss you and the Cph.rb crowd as well. I’m still on the mailing list and subscribed to your blog.

    Hi Pelle,

I just stumbled across your blog—welcome to the Bay Area! It seems we have some common interests (globetrotting, entrepreneurship, libertarianism, alternative financial systems). Would you like to have lunch sometime? I would love to meet you.

If you like, you can learn a bit more about me at my blog: http://www.craschworks.com.
